The novel is written in a familiar tone, oscillating between Dimas’ experiences in Indonesia and his memories of the country, before passing the narrative along to those close to him. Through his friends and family, readers come to appreciate the deep cavern created by a government crackdown, and what it takes to break the hushed silence that has come to surround it.
